Our Hero, Anne Donovan
Anne served as an Army spouse for more than 26 years and continues to serve the military community, its families, and community groups. Known to all as a great friend and super Mom, she is a dedicated leader and volunteer.
Anne raised her family in three countries—the United States, Panama, and Germany—and moved her family 17 times during her husband Mike’s Army career. Much of that time, Anne was alone with the children while Mike was deployed. Anne never complained; she kept helping others.
Anne never sat still. She took leadership roles organizing and leading family support groups, helping Army spouses and their families cope during months of deployment in the United States and overseas.

At the United States Army War College, she developed the first spouse seminar group for spouses of soldiers deployed during the Global War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lieutenant General David Huntoon, Commandant of the United States Army War College, commended Anne for her work supporting soldiers and their families.
After Mike retired from active duty, he and Anne returned to Goshen. For the past 18 years, she has been instrumental in Goshen’s Scout Troop 63, serving actively on the troop’s committee. She single-handedly developed and conducted a troop leader training program for the Scouts.
Anne also works closely with American Legion Post 377 to recruit and send youth representatives to Boys State, a prestigious, week-long leadership and citizenship program for high school juniors. Through hands-on experience, participants learn about government, politics, and civic responsibility.
Anne serves as a docent at the U.S. Army Military School at West Point. She also helps young men and women navigate the application process for the United States Military Academy and has helped five young men gain admission.
Anne has received numerous awards and accolades for her volunteer service. Her awards from the United States Army include:
Public Service Commendation Medal
Meritorious Public Service Medal
Army Commander’s Award for Civilian Service
Anne is a true gem in our community and most certainly is our hero.
