WALTER HARFORD

United States Navy Armed Guard

T H E I R   H E R O   S T O R Y

Walter Harford served in the United States Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class. As a gunner in the North Atlantic, he served aboard ships that faced the constant threat of enemy submarines and aircraft.

Now 103, Walter lives at the Bath VA medical center in Bath, NY, where staff, family, and friends love him deeply. He is also believed to be the second-oldest veteran currently living there.

On March 26, 2026, Walter was honored for his service in the United States Navy and his military accomplishments.

We feel fortunate to spend time with Walter and listen to the many stories he has gathered over more than a century of life. His experiences, his service, and the life he has lived are remarkable—but what makes Walter especially meaningful to us is simply the person he is.

He is truly an amazing man.
