History
Scholarships are one of The Rotary Club of Goshen, NY's Community Service Projects.
- 22 Jan. 1930 - Rotary Club of Goshen NY announced the first of many subsequent awards in the amount of $200. (Whether this was a grant or a loan is unknown.)
- Rotary Year - 1959-60 – $500 in scholarships and loans.
- 1962 - $800 in scholarships and loans.
- 1972 – grants discontinued. Club voted to continue granting scholarships for up to four years in either academic or technical schools. In addition, it was decided to transfer a minimum of $500 annually to a special “Scholarship Fund” which in the future would become self sustaining.
- 1979 – Scholarship Fund at $10,000.
- July 1981 – Fund just over $15,000.
- April 1983 – club decided that each award would be for $1000 and only Goshen School District residents would be eligible.
- Rotary Year - 1992-93 – Goshen Rotary Scholarship Foundation Inc. formed.
Since the Goshen Rotary Scholarship Foundation first awarded a scholarship, more than one hundred and twenty students have received awards totaling over $340,000
